For the past few months, I’ve been a little addicted to Minecraft. Now, I don’t play the way normal people play it. I just go on creative mode by myself and make little 8-bit images of different characters. There’s something very relaxing about looking at picture and making it come to life in Minecraft. Well, it’s not really alive, but whatever.
How to do it
First off, you need Minecraft. I’m not well-versed in mods and texture packs and servers and whatnot. I just downloaded the Technic Launcher. It has a couple different Minecraft mods that you can choose to launch, but I just choose regular Tekkit. It has a ton of stuff that I don’t even know how to use, but it has a much larger amount of blocks and other building materials to choose from. It also has more colors to use than the base game.
Then, you need to get on Google and do an image search for “8 bit.” You should get pretty much any character you can think of. If you want to find something a little more easy, look up “8 bit grid.” It’s easier to count how many blocks you need for a row with the grid over top of it. Once you get the hang of it, you will be able to use any pixellated image.
Here’s the Result
I focused heavily on Nintendo characters for these. This is the first group of pixel art that I’ve done on my laptop. I did another group of images on my desktop that I did in 2 live streams on Twitch. I would like to stream some more pixel art in the future, but if you watch the videos, chat gets a little out of hand. I guess I need moderators next time!
