I’ve been kind of low energy for awhile since my new horrendous work schedule is absolutely killing me. Because of that, I’ve been laying on the couch a lot or laying in bed all day spending most of my time reading.
Awhile back, I complained that I just couldn’t get into New 52 DC comics and that Marvel was best and blah blah blah. On a whim, I decided to pick a few of the main DC titles and read them starting at issue #1 onwards. I chose Action Comics, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, and Birds of Prey. Holy crap, I have never been more wrong in my life! Wonder Woman and Birds of Prey have been my favorite so far and I can’t stop reading them! I’m also surprised at how far I’ve gotten into Green Lantern, since he’s a character I’ve never been all that excited about. I definitely recommend Birds of Prey to anyone!
Last weekend I saw Guardians of the Galaxy, and let me say I wish I could go watch it every day for the rest of my life. I figured it would be good, but I didn’t realized how freaking amazing it was going to be! My very favorite parts where anything involving Groot and Rocket Raccoon. I’ve never seen Groot be so magical and heartwarming in the comics. Since I’m a huge Doctor Who fan, I was excited to see Karen Gillan in the movie as Nebula. I was so impressed. Amy Pond really worked every scene. The whole movie was awesome and I can’t wait for the sequel. I really want to go see it again.
My backlog of games is even more overwhelming than ever! Lately I’ve been playing the first Bioshock, since I’ve never actually beat it. I have to say this game absolutely stands the test of time. I hadn’t played it in a long time, but I seriously couldn’t tell that this was an old last gen game. Especially the opening when you’re in the water and everything is on fire around you, it just looks almost real and definitely like the game could have been released yesterday. I guess for me, the Bioshock series can really do no wrong.
So, that’s what has been going on in my spare time so far. Next stretch of days off, I plan on finishing Doctor Who with my boyfriend. We are at the beginning of season 7. This is my second time watching it all the way through and his first. I hope we get it all watched by August 23, which is when season 8 premieres. I don’t really care if I beat Bioshock anytime soon, because I like to draw out games for a long time. I do plan on playing the first Witcher game so I can get through that series before The Witcher 3 comes out in February. I also plan to keep trucking along in DC, plus adding Cosmic Marvel to my reading list courtesy of Guardians of the Galaxy.
Let me know what you’re reading/watching/playing in the comments below!
Groot & Rocket totally stole the movie for me. And I can’t wait for Season 8 of Doctor Who! So curious about Peter Capaldi’s take on the role. We even scored tickets for the premiere simulcast their doing with the local movie theaters here.

You can’t go wrong playing the first Bioshock game. That’s one of my all time favorites, I haven’t read a comic in years. Every time I try to I just can’t.
