I was really excited when I heard that Harley Quinn was getting her own series, but then I was terrified. Especially with the DC artist competition calling for submissions of “Harley Quinn naked in a bathtub trying to kill herself with a toaster.” I thought this series was going to be stupid Harley getting beat up by Joker and then running back to him like an idiot every time. Boy, was I wrong.
While trying to fill up her new Brookyn penthouse, Harley Quinn stumbles upon animal rights activists protesting a pet adoption center which supposedly euthenizes animals that aren’t adopted within 30 days. Harley marches in to adopt some animals, but her application is turned down as she is deemed an unsuitable pet owner. So, she takes matters into her own hands with the help of best friend Poison Ivy. They break the animals out of the adoption center and Harley fights off a hitman who tells her that her new address is posted online.
This issue really hit me in the feels because I am a dog freak. I would adopt every shelter dog in the world if I could. Plus, I loved seeing girl time with Harley and Ivy. I love the direction this series is going, since the writers are portraying Harley as an emotionally strong character rather than a punching bag for the Joker.
I don’t usually buy comic books, but these sound really good!
