Since it’s the beginning of the year, it seems like Marvel made their own New Year’s resolution – “Let’s re-brand our re-brand and reboot some reboots!” The result of that is All-New Marvel NOW! I’m actually a gigantic Marvel fan and I would say I spend 75% of my free time reading Marvel comics, even though I don’t write about them as much. Also, the All-New Marvel NOW! reboot of Marvel NOW! isn’t really as lame as I just described it. Basically, with the new year, Marvel is re-introducing and re-booting some characters that haven’t gotten as much attention in the past year or so. Also, the same old comics will still be around, just with new story arcs. Here are a couple of the brand new series that I can’t wait to read:
All-New Ghost Rider
I was never a Ghost Rider fan and I didn’t really like the Nick Cage movie. This new comic book series is a complete reboot. This Ghost Rider is a high school student named Robbie Reyes and his choice of wheels is the humble automobile, not a motorcycle. I’m really interested in seeing where this goes, so I’ll be picking up an issue when it releases in March.
The first issue of Black Widow actually came out this week. I’ll be reading it soon and possibly writing about it on here. It’s my understanding that this story is about her infamous ledger. Righting her wrongs so she can live in the black. I’m really happy to see more female focused series.
Loki: Agent of Asgard
First of all, Loki is pretty much my favorite thing ever. As we speak, I have a Loki Funko en route to my apartment. I’m absolutely squealing with joy that Loki gets his own comic again. From what I’ve read, he’s going to be more involved throughout the Marvel Universe.
I’m so excited about this one, too. Here we have another female comic book character, but she’s young and Muslim as well. Her superpower is morphing her body shape and size. The new Ms. Marvel is Kamala Khan and she’s 16 years old. The first issue releases next month.
Winter Solidier: The Bitter March
This is just a limited run, but with all the hype about the new Captain America movie, I pretty much freak out anytime I hear about Bucky. I’ve never read any Winter Soldier series, but he has crossed over into major plot lines of other series that I read. This series will be five issues long and will take place in 1966.
All-New Marvel NOW! just started this week. If you’d like to learn more about it, you should definitely pick up All-New Marvel NOW Point One #1. It covers previews of many of the new series that will be released this year. Other new number ones that came out this week were All-New X-Factor, Avengers World, and Black Widow. Keep checking back as I review more issues from the Marvel Universe!
