I just got home from a 12 hour night shift and I’m really exhausted. I don’t normally write during my work week, but I felt strangely motivated to write this morning. I’ve gotten a bunch of new information about future and ongoing video game sales. Since I am the queen of getting games cheap, I’ll probably post sales pretty regularly.
I’m still kicking myself in the butt over missing the Walmart Glitch sale that happened a few days ago. What happened was there was some kind of glitch on the Walmart website where a bunch of games and electronics were marked down steeply. Brand new games like Pokemon X/Y and Battlefield 4 were marked down to $18. Monitors were marked down to $8 and some TVs were accidentally marked down in to the $100-something range. Walmart honored the orders that were shipped to store, but I’m not sure if there’s any word if they honored the ship to home orders. The sad part is, I knew it was happening before the glitch was fixed and I did nothing about it. I heard about it really early in the morning on Twitter, but people kept talking about Pokemon X/Y and not any of the other games. I already have Pokemon Y, so I didn’t think anything of it and I didn’t bother checking to see if there were other markdowns. Oh well. Let’s just talk about real sales that are legit and happening right now.
Amazon is doing a Countdown to Black Friday Sale. A lot of Xbox 360 games are going on sale for %40 off or more. There weren’t any games I was really excited about, mostly because they were older games I’ve either played before or already own, but if you’re wanting to go back and play some good, older games, you might want to check it out. Another cool thing about this sale is that a bunch of collectors editions are discounted. Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell Blacklist Paladin Multi-Mission Aircraft Edition is going for $100 instead of $170 for Xbox 350, PS3, and PC. All collectors editions of Saints Row IV are on sale from $49.99 – $99.99. The World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria Collector’s Edition is on sale for $39.99 (it comes with a mousepad). Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag Limited Edition is on sale for $109.99 down from $129.99. The Disney Infinity Starter Pack is on sale for $59.99 on all systems. Also, all Dual Shock 3 controllers are on sale for $39.99. Xbox 360 wireless controllers are on sale for $36.49 in black only.
A way to build up a good PC collection is through Humble Bundle. It originally started as a “pay what you want” system for a bundle of indie games where profits go to charity. Now, major publishers have gotten involved and Humble Bundle runs two sales – a feature bundle and a weekly sale bundle. This week the feature bundle is from WB Games. These are the games you can get in the bundle:
Scribblenauts Unlimited
Batman:Batman Arkham Asylum GOTY
Batman: Arkham City GOTY
F.E.A.R 2 and 3
Lord of the Rings: War in the North
If you bought these games full price, you would be paying over $120 for them. Through Humble Bundle, you can pay however much you feel like. The money will go to WB’s charity, We Can Be Heroes, whose goal is to fight hunger in Africa. In order to play these games, you need to be able to activate them through Steam, although that’s not always the case for every bundle.
The Black Friday ad leaked for Toys R Us and there were some pretty decent deals, although not good enough to warrant a 30 minute drive to the world’s grimiest Toys R Us in the country. The most notable sale they’re having is actually on Thursday. From 5pm to 9 pm, the Disney Infinity Starter Pack is going to be on sale for all the systems for $37.49. If you’re into that kind of game, it’s a really great deal and probably the best one I’ve seen yet. They’re only going to sell it at that specific time and limit two per customer. Click on the ads to make them more readable.
On this page, I thought the best deal was the Playstation 3 for $200 that comes with The Last of Us. Be sure to read the fine print – it’s a limited time offer.
Toys R Us is going to have $39.99 Dual Shock 3 and Xbox 360 controllers, but you can get those at Amazon right now for that price. 150 select games are going on sale for buy 1 get one for $1. The game you pay for is going to be in the $15-$20 range, so if you go there, be sure to check what the price is at other retailers. The $20 game you pay for might be $10 somewhere else. The only game in the picture that’s really exciting me is Halo Wars. Funny story, I’ve bought and traded in the collector’s edition of the game twice!
This page is the most exciting. If you don’t already have a 3Ds, you can buy one for $149 and it comes with Luigi’s Mansion. It’s a bummer that it’s a regular 3DS and not an XL, but it’s still a good deal. It appears there’s a crap ton of Skylanders stuff on sale, as well, but I don’t know too much about that. Another great game sale is the Buy 1 get 1 %40 off all games (can’t be combined with buy one get one for $1). This would be a good way to get new fall releases for cheap that won’t be on sale at Gamestop. This deal is good from Thursday through Saturday and is a good chance to get Gamestop’s Friday only sales through the whole weekend. I would be most interested in Arkham Origins and Call of Duty Ghosts.
I hadn’t really planned on typing so much and I’m ready for bed. One last piece of info to think about, the Steam Christmas Sale dates have leaked online. Supposedly the sale will run from November 27 to December 3 for an Autumn sale. Unfortunately for my bank account, there will be a Christmas Sale December 19 – January 2. I really hope this isn’t true. I tend to go overboard during Steam sales and my body just can’t handle two sales in a row. I guess I won’t be buying a house this winter after all.
Amazon is my favorite place to shop for PC games so I’m always searching for good deals on them. A week ago Metro Last Light was half off. I recently got Saints Row 4 for 20 bucks which is a steal in my opinion. Splinter Cell Blacklist, Bioshock Infinite, and other games were all very cheap for me to buy which is great since I have three kids.

You should check /r/gamedeals on reddit as well. I’m not too much of a redditor, but that place saved me tons of cash! I grabbed Bioshock Infinite at $13 thanks to them 😀
